Elderberry Syrup Time- Be well.

Do you love Elderberry Syrup?

I have to admit, when I first saw the Pinterest phenomenon surrounding this Syrup, I wondered how big of a difference it would make for my family. Another healthy fall and winter season later, and I am hooked.

We prepare our house against illness and arm ourselves with the best nutrients we can get. We diffuse, apply, and take Young Living essential oils internally. We drink our Ningxia. We reduce sugar consumption and now we take our Elderberry Syrup. This is an easy way to get the oils in our bodies, with added immune supporting nutrition, in one quick tablespoon. Big to littlest in the house have no issues taking this sweet syrup.

Our bodies need antioxidants, immune supporting oils, and Vitamin C. Why you ask? Because toxins, environment, germs and people with germs!

I have already received a couple of messages regarding Day Care and Back to School Nose and requests for Elderberry Syrup. So, because I care about your health, here is my easy to make recipe!

These ingredient go in the pot:

(No Instant Pot? No problem simply boil on stove and simmer like tea until reduced by half.)

8 ounces of whole dried organic Elderberries (remove stems & seeds)

2 cinnamon stick

1 fresh organic lemon

6 cups water

Set Instant Pot to High Pressure (Manual) for 9 minutes.

**I’ve adapted this recipe from a collection of others on the web. Recently, I found that some suggest this process be done on the stove to ensure the toxins are removed completely.

Once cooled but but not cold strain.

Then mix in these ingredients:

2 cups raw local honey

2 drops each of Young Living:

Cinnamon

Thieves

Orange

Lemon

Clove

Nutmeg

Fennel

Transfer to and Store in glass container in the refrigerator. I am not sure how long they last since we drink every drop within about three months.

Makes 3- 8 oz bottles.

My why…

“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Psalm‬ ‭139:14‬ ‭NIV‬‬

I’ve been thinking a bit about my journey to healthier living that began in 2011 and my decision to build a Young Living business in 2013.

In 2008, I had my youngest son. I had anxiety and depression that shut me down most days. It was relentless and the only thing worse was the insomnia and the feeling that I was trapped in my existence.

When I looked in the mirror, I no longer saw myself or anyone I wanted to be. It was long and difficult.

My health was the next to crumble. Weight gain, adrenal fatigue, body aches, and a vague diagnosis with no fix. At that point. I let doctors, who did not know, define what I could and could not do.

But God…

In 2010, we moved to DFW. 600 miles from family, to new jobs, new stress, new bills and the same sickness. That year, Tom ended up in the hospital twice with random unexpected illnesses. Needless to say, we were tired, our marriage was rocky, our finances a mess.

In 2011, in a desperate attempt for relief from my physical and emotional hurts, I found help at the hands of a Chinese Medicine Doctor. I learned about toxins and how eating clean and living clean can heal the body.

I learned to move (whether painful or not). Most importantly, I realized that with every bit of effort in the right direction, small changes were countering the faulty beliefs I had foolishly accepted about myself.

Fast forward a few months, I learned from my childhood friend that Young Living had great products to support my new and evolving toxic-free lifestyle. Essential Oils were the missing link and I began to feel healthier than I ever had.

In 2013, I became a certified yoga instructor, in 2015, I ran my first half marathon with my husband. In that half training, I learned to follow him/Him. Our marriage was healed.

In 2015, I went to an Oola Weekend Conference and wrote down wants, why’s, goals, and how’s, regarding these areas of life Faith, Family, Friends, Fun, Fitness, Finances, and Field (work). With a community of people who were ready to take living to the next level, I developed a plan.

We are now Gold distributors with Young Living. We have traveled, paid off debt, sent our children on adventures, and I was able to leave my job in public education in 2017 and go to school full-time this year (dream come true), all because of the decision to intentionally share wellness with others.

“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭139:14‬ ‭

My dreams are to continue to learn and grow in understanding about how to empower myself and others to create a life they love! Through my work as a life coach and a therapist-in-training, I hope to reach others who are ready to live better.

We are incredibly grateful for every bit of this journey, even the painful ones.

I share my story not because it’s over, or because I live a perfectly healthy life today, but to say we are not limited to what we think we are or are not.

Never settle for anything you can choose out of your life. Find Joy in that which is not a choice and the journey you will experience along the way!

Chemical Free Skin Care

Have you tried Young Living Essential Oils for your skincare needs? If not, you are missing out on a luxurious, chemical-free experience! These oils have been used throughout history to keep skin healthy and radiant.

The skin is our largest organ. This means unhealthy skin is often a result of illness or toxic overload inside the body. Likewise, everything that touches our skin also has the potential to enter our bodies. So, due to our bodies natural give and take relationship with the world around us and it’s portrayal of our internal health, good food, hydration, chemical free environments, moisturizing, and cleansing, all contribute not only to healthy skin but healthy living. Hormonal balance and stress reduction will also improve the appearance of skin.

Take a look at some of the skin benefits of the oils featured above:

Frankincense- anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, anti-aging, and scar prevention.

Patchouli- tightens loose skin, prevents wrinkles, UV protection, and reduces puffy appearance in the skin.

Myrrh- helps with wrinkles, chapped, cracked, and inflamed skin.

Geranium- blemishes, eliminate toxins, may balance sebum, and improves the look of pale skin.

Carrot Seed- wrinkles, sunburn, and dryness.

Manuka- chafing, rashes, oily skin, and mild sunburn.

Thankfully, in addition to supporting the skin, essential oils support all of the systems in the body for whole body health. Products that are filled with toxic chemicals disrupt the endocrine system, overload the liver and kidneys, and are often carcinogenic. Curious if your products contain these types of toxic ingredients? Take a look at the label and look for aluminum, alcohol, DEA/TEA, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Talc, or Parabens (Poepping, 2015).

Young Living Oils are also a cost-effective way to care for your skin. Each 15 ml bottle of YL oil contains approximately 250-300 drops of the highest quality oil you can buy. One drop a day in your palm and dispersed over the skin with a drop of warm water would means 9 months of skin care. Some of the more valuable oils might seem pricey, but at $73.50 for a bottle of Frankincense, the cost would be less than $9 a month. Serums can be blended for even less. Generally, a serum is 10 ml of quality carrier oil and 15 drops of YL essential oils. There are recipes all over Pinterest and in The Chemical Free Home books by Melissa Poepping, for exploring.

The YL formulated skincare line is also fantastic and last for months due to their concentration. My daughter and I share the Sherlume moisturizer and it has lasted us about 5 months. I simply add one to my Essential Reward order every 6th month, get 20% back on that product, bringing it to $5.42 per person per month. If I didn’t share it would last 10 months! Super affordable and clean skincare!

The ability to change my daily skin routine, if the need arises, is incredibly valuable to me. Stress, traveling, food choice, weather, and pollution levels, change daily, and all affect my skin, so I am grateful for my YL oils and their versatility to support my skin care needs.

Dilution

One of the beauties of YL products is the potency. Dilution is an available and recommended option for many products.

Here are two examples of how I dilute.

I dilute all shower gels, hand soaps, and facial washes, 1 part product to 3 parts water,  in foaming pumps. This is a highly effective consistency for my family and an incredible value.

Next, oils can be infused into a larger batch of carrier oil for easier application.

Here is an example of a facial serum that I mix up. It is almond oil and about 5 drops of each oil shown. This is perfect for my face this season. Next month, might be different, due to weather, diet, hormones, etc… So, the ability to easily change my blend a new batch, to meet my skincare needs is a great benefit.

There are great recipe books available. The Chemical Free Home by Melissa Poepping is my favorite.  However, learning to listen to your body, researching the benefits of certain oils, and developing what works for you and your design is a lot of fun too!
